A sergeant who witnessed the exploits of Private Thomas Jones, of the Cheshires, who, single-handed, disarmed 102 Germans and won the Victoria Cross, states that tho Cheshires captured the village on September 25 and commenced to dig in. He reached the German trenches, four bullets piercing his clothes. Ton minutes later two of hfs pals went over saying, "He's gone, wo aro going, too." Thoy found Jones in a hollow threatening with bombs a hundred grouped Germans with their hands up. He had mastered them singly lrom a dugout, threatening instant death for disobedience.
