RHODESIAN POLICE AMBUSHED (Aust.-N.Z. Cable Assn. and Ecutor.) s (Rec. November 5, 5.5 p.m.) London, November 4. An East African communique says tbe German forces which were dislodged from Tahora have been endeavouring io break through to Mahenge. Confused and severe fighting has occurred in the direction of Iringa sinco October 22. A small detachment of Rhodesiau police under Colonel Baxindale was ambushed, and suffered heavily. Colonel Baxmdale was wounded and captured. A strong German force suffered similarly on October 23 twelvo miles north of Iringa. The commander was wounded and captured. Strong German attacks against Iringa woro beaten off. Northey's column was engaged successfully on tlw Ruhudje River, south-west of Mahenge. COMPENSATION TO CHILE : 'A PRESENT OP SUBMARINES.
