Tlio Son. J. Allen went to Wanganui on Saturday to address a. recruiting meeting there. His visit was a very short one, for he returned to Wellington again yesterday.
The Hon. A. L. Herdman, who lias been for some' days in tlie South Island, will return to Wellington tomorrow morning.
Tho Hon. A. M. Myers is expected hack from Auckland to-morrow morning.
Tho Hon. I)r. M'Nab lias gone to the South Island.
Tho Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald returned from Palmorston on Saturday afternoon.
Mr. J. SncJl, of Wellington, has been appointed a deputy-censor of telegraphic messages for stations at or near Wellington.
Mr. Richard Teece, general manager of the A.M.P. Society, is now in Now Zealand, having como from Sydney via Auckland. Ho will visit Wellington and the South Island before returning to Sydney.
Tho death of Mrs. Pomberton, motlier of Mr. B. V; Pemberton, of the Meteorological Office, Wellington, occurred in Christchurch on Friday niglit. The deceased lady, who was much respected, was tho widow of Dr. Pemberton, formerly of Wellington.
Mr. D. Morrison, the Union Steam Ship Company's manager at Rarot-onga, arrived in Wellington by the Maitai on Saturdsy.
Mr. A. W. Donald, of tho firm of Donald's, Ltd., who has been on a visit to Papeete, returned to New Zealand by the Maitai cn Saturday.
The death occurred at Masterton on Friday last of Mr. Daniel Dalev, formerly a well-known settler in the Invercargill district. He was 76 years of age, and loaves one son and three daughters..
Dr. Marshall Macdonald, of Dnnedin, who has been requested by the Government to proceed to Rotorua for the purpose of inspecting the provision being made there for the treatment of returned soldiers, and also to report on the advisability of importing special appliances from England for treating particular' cases, went north this week.
The following census returns are announced for the -Palmerston North .district:—Palmerston North, 16,827; increase since 1911, 1836. Kairanga County, 4121; increase, 244. Pohimgina, 1581; decrease, 216.—Press Association.
News was received last night by Mrs. E. L. B. Holben, of Palmerston North, that her son, Lieut. Robert Holburn, had died from wounds _ received five weeks ago. The late Liejut. Holburn, who was 24 years of age, was well known in Palmerston North, _where he was educated. He was farming at Helensville when war was declared, and he joined the 4th Reinforcements. He went through the Gallipoli campaign without being wounded. On gaining his commission he went to France, where he was engaged in action until September, when he received fatal wounds.
