FRENCH CLUB
I Afc the French Club's meeting on | Wednesday ovening a rfeport on tlio club's recent examination • for young people was read. Tho' examiners were Mrs. Bendall, diploma in secondary subjects, highest division, by the Academy of Rennes, and Brevet Superieur' [by the Academy'of Poietiers; Madam Dechanot-M'lntosh, diplomee in French, by the Academy or Dijou; and Mr. C. J. Cooke, 8.A., New Zealand University. The report expressed satisfaction at the increasing number of candidates, and at Hheir! continued high attainments. It dealt, also, with some matters of detail, as a guide to 6ho_ teachers on how they may improve their teaching. After some discussion, Miss Van Staveren moved, and Mr. T. H. Whetton seconded, a hearty vote of thanks to the examiners for their painstaking efforts, and to the secretary for drawing up and presenting the report. This was carried by acclamation. The remainder of the evening was devoted to moro literary matters. Mr. Hodgson sang "Bonhcur Cache," Mr, Whetton read two dialogues from Tolstoi that had been translated into French, and Miss Van Staveren read a humorous piece describing tho adventures of a man who had gone to America to make his fortune, and returned home with only a shilling or two in his pocket. There was a good attendanco of members, and this boing the first meeting of the' summer session, it appeared a happy augury for tho success of that session. -
