The Sanno Maru. a Japanese steamer which put into Wellington some weeks ago short of coal, had another mishap which compelled her to put back to' Brisbono a few days ago. Inspection showed that tho main feed-pipe had fractured close under tho cheek valve oil the port boiler, nnd that tho check valve was leaking as a result of a crack between the face of tho valve and tho legs. The chief engineer examined tho boiler and found Uircci rivets with heads off. The repairs were attended to by tho A.U.S.N. Company's workmen and theso men carried out tho repairs in very expeditious manner tho time taken being about a day, whereas one of the olflecrs said that in New York it would hnjc Taken about a week to complete the repairs.

Tho liner Opawa arrived at Melbourne from Liverpool on Tuesday, and it* next to visit Sydney and lAuckland. She is due at Wellington about November 24. ROUGH TRIP BY CVRENA. Very rough weather was experienced by the Cyrcna on her trip down from Napier on Tuesday night. A high wind and heavy seas made the trip an unpleasant one. The vessel left Napier* late, ou Monday, and however bad the weather was expected to get into port on Tuesday evening. Tho Cyrena is riot a fast vessel, but can usually manage about 10 knots, but in this particular instance she only made 5 knots an hour, and did not reach port until,late yesterday morning} Sho goes on to Timaru and Duncdin after finishing here.

KAITOA TO RESUME RUNNING. Messrs. Bannatyne and Co. advise that it is ospccted that the Kaitoa, which has recently been undergoing overhaul and extensive structural alterations at_ Nelson, will arrive at WcTlmgton from "N'elsou on Wednesday, and -will then go on the Patent Slip to complete overhaul. Sho is timed to leave here on November 10 for Nelson and Motucka, and will then oarry ou her usual running. PORT PHILLIP AT AUCKLAND. The C. and D. liner Port Pbillijj. arrived at Auckland at 9 a.m. yesterday, and ia due in Wellington on Sunday. Sho has about 1000 tons of cargo for here, and afterwards goes oil to Lyttelton and Dunedin, and finally Australia, to finish discharge. NEWS 'OF ACCIDENT AT SINGAPORE. The oil steamer Cyrena, which arrived in port at 10 p.m. yesterday from Singapore, via jDorts, brought news of an accident which occurred there recently to the motor-ship Glenartrey, a new vessel belonging to the Glen Line, of Glasgow. The Glenartrey is said to be the largest Diesel-engined craft afloat. Shortly after her arrival at Singapore she caught, fire, and ii<id to be scuttled to prevent the fire Spreading. Salvage operations wore commenced immediately, and when the Cyrena left Singapore the'Glenartrey wits just being raised. It is interesting to note that she was on her maiden voyage from London. ARRAH-NA-POGUE SOLD, i Advices from Auckland state that the well-known scow, Arrah-na-Pogue, has been purchased by an Australian firm from Mr. T. P. Somerville, of Auckland. The sailer is # at'present at Auckland, and is to load timber for Sydney. Sho will then be retained in the intercolonial running. She was built four years ago by Mr. G. Niccol, of Auckland, and is well known round New Zealand. It will be romembered that the veesel took over 40 days 011 a trip to Holdanga recontly, and anxiety was also caused by her lengthy trip from Holdanga to Auckland. Young signed off the Corinna yesterday, where ho occupied the position of second mate. He was replaced by Mr. A. S. Gibson. Principal-keeper P. J. Voyle, of Kahurangi Point light, 'has been transferred to Godley Head. To fill the vaeanoy, first assistant-keeper A. Duncan has been promoted to principal-keeper, and-assistant-keeper Trainor, late of Ta»iaroa Heads, will join the Ivu-hurangi light c-s assistant.

Mr. G. Allport. Secretary for Marine, advses that the Hinemoa, Jf able to effect a successful landing at ivahurangi Point, will arrive in Wellington on Tuesday, and (arrangements have beeo. made, for IJIO Hinemoa to go on tho Slip here before going north, which she does in about three weeks' time.

According to tho Sydney Shipping List, the Defiance, an American schooner of 526 tons, is to load from Pupct Sound during November-December for Wellington. _ The Ripple and Buru are both expected in port from Napier and the East Coast on Friday. Bad weather prevails on tho coast, however, and the ..vessels may be delayed. Ou account of this no arrangements as to when tho vossols will leave have yet been made.

The Koutunui is still delayed in port, but will leave for the Eaet Coast as soon as the weather up there permits the vessel to work.

It is expected that, the Nsalmta will get away on Thursday for Greymouth and will load hack to Wellington. She is due here again, about Sunday. The Westralia. duo from south to-day, is bringing 120 tons of local cargo. She will leave to-day for Sydney via northern ports.

The steamer Invcrcargill was engaged on Monday discharging t.% first shipment of blnti gum to reach Duncdin from tho stranded Antiope. " This cargo comprises about 60 000 ft., including a good proportion of logs, and. as it has como to a. bare market, its arrival is very opportune. The salvage operations so far seem to have been attended by a gratifying measure of success, and those engaged in the operations arc hopeful of eventually being able to refloat the Antiope.
