A SIEGE GUN BATTERY
NEW UNIT OF THE EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. Artillery reinforcements scut from New Zealand Lave exceeded the wastage in tlie artillery units on aefcivo scrvico to such ar_ extent that there aro heavy accumulations of artillery reinforcements in reserve in England. In view of this tho New Zealand aut.liontios. sojug time ago suggested to tho War Office that a New Zealand heavy artillery unit should ho made up from some of theso men in reserve. The Imperial Government agreed to the proposal, but stipulated for a siege gun battery instead of a battery of heavier field guns or field howitzers. Accordingly a New Zealand siege gun battery is to be formed. _ New Zealand will havo to _ keep up reinforcemnts on the new unit, but theso will amount to only about 50 men a year.
