The Hon. W. H. Herries goes north to Auckland on Friday, staying over during the day at Palmerston to visit the show. '

• Tho Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald goes to Wereroa to-day to visit the Experimental Farm, and ho will go on to the Palmerston Show to-morrow.

During the temporary absoncc of the Commandant of Featherston Camp, Lieut.-Col. N. P. Adams, Major Sweetzer, assistant infantry instructor, will act as Camp Commandant as from today. s

Private cablegrams have been received from London advising that 2nd Lieut. Geoffrey Callender, of the Royal, Flying Corps, who has been iii Franco for the last three months, has been slightly wounded in an air combat. It is gratifying to learn that' the young aviator succeeded in shooting down his Run opponent. Lieut. Callender is an old Wellington College.boy, and latterly a student of Sydney "University.

'Mr. H. Nelson, of the firm of Messrs. Nelson, Moate, and Co., has been advised that his son, Trooper T. H: Nelson, of the Second Reinforcements, is still in England. It was previously reported in error that he was on board tho Mararna, which, arrived last week.

Mr; E. J. Russell, Assistant to tho Professor of Mathematics'at Canterbury. College during the absence of Mr. L. 3. Darwin, on active service, has resigned, and Mr. It. D. Thompson has been appointed to the vacancy as from March 1 next.

Mr. Slander, of the Christchurch Customs Department, who is being promoted to Wellington, was met by members of the Savago Club Committee at tho club room on Tuesday afternoon, and entertained at a farewell gathering. Mr. Marider has been for 16 years a member of the Christchurch Savage Club, and beforo that for eight years a member of the Duncdin Savago Club.

A cablegram has been 'received by Mrs. Clay, of Upper Willis Street, stating that her brother, Chaplain-Captain Cruickshank, has quite recovered from the wounds received while serving with the New Zealand Forces in France.

A presentation of a marble clock and suit care was made to Constable E. Larkin oil Tuesday evening (says our Greytown correspondent), on his leaving tlie Foi'ce to take up the position of town clork in Greytown.. Mr. 'Mark Maxton made the presentation, and Messrs. A. Murray, A. Low, and J. Thompson also spoke.

Dr. Peter, Gordon, of Wairoa, died suddenly ou Tuesday. Tho deceased, who was a son of Mrs. Peter Gordon, Masterton, for some years followed farming pursuits in the Wairarapa, and later on commenced to study for the medical profession. In' pursuance of these studies he left about sevon years ago for Scotland, and was successful in graduating as a medical practitioner. About a year ago he returned to Masterton, and acted as locum tenens for Dr. Cowie during the latter's absence in England. A few months ago he commenced practice at Wairoa, and was in his usual good health until ho suffered a sudden stroke on Monday last. He was married only a few months ago to Miss M. H. Payton, of Masterton.
