PARCELS POST DELIVERY

CONTRACT SYSTEM BEING ABANDONED. Parcels, over and above a certain size or weight, on which there is no dutv to collect, are not distributed by the' Post Office officials, but reach their destination through the medium. of a carting contractor. This system has worked fairly well in the past, but with tho growth of the Department's business it has been found that thcrb is sufficient work to keep a motor delivery van going in the distribution of parcels, aud by that means people will get prompter delivery than by the old express service. Consequently the system of contracting for the parcels delivery from the General Post Office is being abandoned, and from,' January 1 next the .Department will do the work. Arrangements to that end are now being made.
