A. Hardy, who is shortly to transfer to Auckland. Advice has been received that Private Harold Wilkinson, son of Mr C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., has been given _ a commission as lieutenant in the British Array, and that ho is now on aotivo sendee in France. Sergeant Alcc. F. Meldrum, son of. Lieutenant-Colonel Meldrum, who was wounded in France on October I,'and nominated for a Rhodes Scholarship, has cabled his consent to nomination . from London, where ho is in hospital. Sergeant Meldrum left with the thirteenth Reinforcements, and formerly served in Samoa. , Colonel Fox and Dr. Whitton were passengers for Christchurcb by Mooraki last evening Mr. C. 31. Luko visited Trentham Camp yesterday in connection .with the Y.Jf.C.A. Institute work. The death is announced in the south of Mr. David M'Uwraith, an old and well-known resident of Darfield. lho deceased, who was a native of Ayrshire, came out to Now Zealand in 1882, and some years later he was appointed manager of tho Selwyn County Council's water-race system in tho Ellesmere district, and later became' the inspector of plantations. He was for twenty years secretary of tho Forresters' Lodge of Dunsandel. Rifleman Arthur J. Bird, killed in action in Franco on September 15, was tho third surviving son of Mrs. Joseph Bird, Waimate, and was twenty-nine years of ago. He left for the front with the Fourteenth Reinforcements. Mr. Charles Bolton, who was connected with tho Public Service in Wellington for many vears, died at his residence in Owen Street on Sunday, at the age of 64. Tho deceased, who was a native of England, joined the Land and Income Tax Department in 1878, and remained with it until 189". Four years later ho becarno a member of the staff of tho Government Insurance Department, and with tho exception ol' a year's break -;1897-98) ho was in the Service .until lie retired on superannuation two years ago last June, owing to ill-health.' lie has. left a widow and family. Two of his sons went to tho front. One is still there, and the olher is a prisoner of war. Professor Park, Director of the Otago School of Mines, 'lias received advice that his youngest son, Lieut, lv. R. Park, formerly employed in the service of the Union Steamship Company, has been wounded whilst on active service in France. Lieut. Park left New Zea- ' J land with the Third Reinforcements 'as a gunner in the artillery, arriving in Egypt in time to join the Main Bodv. Ho served right throughout the G:illipoli campaign, during which ha received his commission in tho Royal Horse Artillery, being attached to the glorious 29th Division. After the evacuation of Gallipoli, the 29th Division was sent to France, and it was whilst encaged in the "big push" that Lieut. Park was wounded. Professor Park's remaining" two sons aro serving with the New Zealand Lieut. Park is a brother of Mrs. R, S. Thompson, . of Patea.
