Y.M.C.A. WAR WORK
4 I money, not goods, should. be . ■ . - sent: Mr. A. Varney, who is in London representing the Young Men's OJiristian Associations of New Zealand, has cabled to the Y.M.C.A. asking to discourage , the sending of gift goods through the institution, and' he intimates that money should be cabled instead. Mr. Varney says: "We can buy all the necessary comforts and save months in transit. We are developing tho work in the trenches, and have organisation to .reach, every man in the forward lines. Get all the money possible for trench ■ comforts." , .. ' ' _ The gift goods refer to 'persons sendJng parcels of goods to the local associations for them to forward, and to be distributed by the secretaries on the field. This does not in any way refer : to persons sending goods through; the : Post Office to their friends, as this method of distribution is splendid. iWhat is wanted is for persons who are anxious. that comforts should reach every soldier, especially those in the front lines and trenchos, that they forward the National Committee the money, so that goods can be bought to : tho best advantage, and delivered with [
greatest speed to the men mostly in need of comforts. As winter is approaching, the Y.JI.C.A. is asked to getv all • money possible for tEe supply of these necessary things for the cold, rainy, muddy days ahead.
