APPEAL FOR ITS INCREASE (Kouter's Telegram.) London, October 26. Mr. Asquifch 3000 representatives of tho coal-mining industry aud appealed for tho elimination of avoidable absenteeism, whereby _ 5 per cent, of time was at present being lost. If this was made up the presdnt deficiency in the coal output would be remedied. The output had progressively decreased since tho war started, although tho importance of coal for carrying on the war was only second to tho importance of men. The meeting passed a. resolution, pledging employers and workmen to do everything in their power to increase the output.
