CHANNEL TUNNEL
MATTER TO BE RECONSIDERED
Australian-New Zealand Cable As«oci&tioß. (Rec. October 27, 5.20 p.m.) London, October 26. Mr. Asquith, replying to a deputation, promised that the Committee of Imperial Defence would review the Channel tunnel proposal in all its pects in the light.of tho experience gained in the war. He added that in response to the deputation which waited on him in 1913, he had directed tho Defence Committee to reconsider the tunnel's strategic aspects. The committee in July, 1914, decided, by a majority, adversely against the scheme. Ho agreed with to-day deputation that the war's experience was a new factor of immeasurable importance for statesmen and military and naval experts. He promised to refer the matter to tho War Committee or the Defence Committee.
