RUMANIA'S HOUR OF TRIAL
HELP FORTHCOMING
PERSONAL PLEDGE FROM THE TSAR Aueiraliau-Ncw Zealand Cable Association. London, October 25., A Russian official message states: —"We have abandoned the Corna-voda-Tasava-Luhiko position. South of Dorna Vatra wo dislodged tho enemy in a series of fights, and took a number of prisoners on the north-eastern. Rumanian front. Tho Rumanians fell back'a little at Predcal Pass, in the Tirgulley Valley, near Kimpolung, and in tho Uinlia Valley." RUMANIAN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. (Rec. October 26, 7.20 p.m.) Bucharest, October 25. A Rumanian official communique stato6:—"ln tho Uzu Valley we advanced westward. We repulsed the onemy beyond the frontier at Oituz. and also l to the northward. Wo lost ground in tho Vulvan Pass, and retreated north, of Cernavoda." GERMAN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. (Roc. October 26, 5.5 p.m.) London, October 25. A German official communique states: —"The Austro-Germans stormed the Vulcan Pass and made progress north of Kimpolung. In the Dobrudja, the pursuit of tho enemy continues. Cernavoda was occupied this morning, an ■uncommonly important success being achieved." HOW THE RUMANIANS MANOEUVRED . FOR POSITION - London, October 25. The Rumanians, in order to protect their bridgehead, swung their line back to a semi-circle around Cernavoda, the right; resting on tho Danube, and the left gradually retiring. Tho manoeuvre involved tho evacuation of Medjidie. Tne captures of war material were inconsiderable, suggesting that the Allies in falling back to the river skilfully extricated themselves from the Constanza, position, which became untenable after tho seizure of Tuzla and the capture of the heights west of Tuzla Lagoon (south_ of Constanza). It is common knowledge that Russia is pouring 1 men into Rumania., knowing that the seizure of the Rumanian stores of wheat, meat, and oil will seriously prolong the war. A PLEDGE CF RUSSIAN HELP Q3.ec. October 27, 0.35 a.m.) Petrograd, October 26. It is officially announced tliat the Tsar of .Russia has given his personal pledge to King Ferdinand of Rumania that all Russia's resources will be utilised in' repelling tho invasion of Rumania, reconquering tho ground lost, and building up a greater Rumania. ■ MOVING MASSES SOUTH OF KRONSTADT. I (Rec. October 27, 0.35 a.m.) New York, October 26. . Dispatches from 'Rumania describe the German advance, and point out that the road south of Kronstadt is choked with military masses and slowmoving columns of artillery and infantry. One correspondent predicts that the operations will be brought to a standstill near Predcal. REPETITION OF CADORNA'S MANOEUVRE MAY HAPPEN A CONTINGENCY WHICH ILLUMINATES THE HORIZON. (Rec. October 27, 0.35 a.m.!) London, October 26. The "Daily Telegraph's Rome correspondent says: "Despitethe loss of Constanza. and Predcal, Italy does not regard the Rumanian situation an desperate. If tho Austro-Germans debouch on to the Rumanian plain, it is expected that there will be a repetition of General Cadoriia's manoeuvre on the Plain' of Vicenza, whero a new Italian army awaited tho Austrians as they were debouching from the Alps, and surrounded them. The RussoRuinanians havo undoubtedly a numerical superiority, though it is doubtful whether there is equality in artillery."
