The Hon. J. A. Hanan, Minister of Education will leave Wellington on a visit to Nelson to-day. Ho will inspect the new homo for weak-minded children at Richmond, near Nelson. ' Mr. Justice Cooper is at present visiting Te Aroha owing to an attack of sciatica. Mr. Justice Hosking wilt remain in Auckland until liis return. Major Sim has been appointed to command the Fifth (Wellington) Regiment, vice Lieutenant-Cofonel Duthie, who will shortly bo leaving on a trip to Great Britain. The Rev. Father Daly, who has been chaplain in the Trentham Camp for a considerable period) will leave New Zealand with the Nineteenth Reinforcemeats. He will be replaced by the Rev. Father Maloney, who returned by the hospital ship Marama, and who in turn will be succeeded by tb© Rev. Father Sogrief. The Rev. Father Bartley will replace Father Segrief at) the Featherston Camp. Captain B. M. Aldwell, of the hospital ship Marama, on arrival at Wellington yesterday hi_tho Maori, was compelled to go to the Davis Street Private Hospital for medical treatment.-

Mr. R. G. Baxter, lato of Dunedin, who has during the last four months acted aa offioo clerk at the military wards of tie Wellington Hospital, is about to retire from the position for privaite reasons. Being unable to .serve his country by enlisting, h» showed his patriotism in a practical manner by giving his services without remuneration in. a clerical oapacity, and his extensive business knowledge •proved most valuable- in connection with the keeping of the Hospital records; etc. During his stay at tho Hospital ha won the respect and regard of all who came in contact with him, both of the medical and nursing staff, and of tho soldier-patients, for ths kindly interest he- took in their welfare. His departure will be greatly, regretted. Of Mr. Baxter's two sons, one has already given his life for his. country at Gallipoli, while the other, Lietuenant Baxter, N.Z.M.C., late house-surgeon at the Hospital, is in eamp at Awapuni, and expects to leave shortly 'for the front with one of the Reinforcements.

Mr. M. C. Barnett, Inspector of the Public Trust- Department, is to take charge of the Auckland district office for somo weeks during the absence on. holiday of Mr. E. F. Warren, district manager..

Sergeant JoTin Munro Clark (eon of the late Mr. George Clark, of 'Wellington, and brother of Mr. D. G. Clark, Commissioner of Taxes), who left with the Second Reinforcements in December, 1914, returned to tho Dominion by the Marama, and will reach Wellington to-day. He was wounded on the right leg a. few days after landing at Gallipot), and .it was found necessary to amputate the limb. After sponding a considerable time in hospital in Egypt, he was invalided to England, where be'was fitted with an artificial leg.

Longton, well blown in connection with the New Zealand Fruit* growers' Federation, Christchurch By the Manuka on Wednesday eh route via Sydnev to Melbourne, where he is to represent _ the Federation on the Australasian Fruitgrowers' Conference to be hold in Melbourne on. October 31. The conference is composed of three delegates from each Australasian State and there should he three representatives of the Dominion, but Mr. Longton alone is to represent New Zealand. There is a possibility (says the Christchurch "Press") that the Government may also send Mr. T. W. Kirk, the Director of Horticulture, or another official to represent the Dominion. <

Mr. WiUaim Archie Kelly, who died 011 Monday, was a well-known marine engineer. He was the son of the late Mr. Archibald Kelly, of Nairn Street-, who was for many years chief engineer of the Kahu. Owing to ill-health ho retired from the sea three years ago, his last ship being the Poherua, of which he waß chief engineer. Among those who atended the funeral on Wednesday, were members of the Marine Engineers' Institute and Masonic Lodge Waterloo, some of whom acted as pall-bearers. Messrs. J. A. Kelly (brother), Lieut. S.' A. Kelly, Nineteenth Reinforcements (nephew), and Mr. J. W. Gibson, of : Levm (brother-in-law) were the chief; mourners The Rev. J. G. Chapman conducted a service at the family ,resi-: dence in Nairn Street, and the Rev. Knowles Smith officiated at the graveside at Karori. The deceased, who was: 52 years of age, was very popular, has left a widow and two daughters.

The members of the Belgian Trio, Miss Ella Caspers, Mr. Frank Green, and M. Jacques 80l (the Belgian 1 tenor), who have been touring the Dominion ps a concert party, left for Sydney las? evening by the Manuka.
