His Excellency the Governor Brigadier-General Sir Alfred Robin, who went to Dunedin to visit the hospital ship Mararaa, returned to Wellington yesterday by the Mararoa. The Hon. J. Allen is due back ia Wellington to-morrow. The Hon. G. W. Russell returned from Christchurch yesterday morning. Mr. Walter Macarthy, of Napier, is a visitor to Wellington. Mr. F. D. Kesteven, who was elected president of the New Zealand Rowing Association last evening, is said to hold tho world's record as captain of a rowing club. He has held the position of captain of tho Union Rowing Club (Christchurch) for 29 years. Sir. S. S. Raymond, K.C., of Christchurch, is on a visit to Wellington. At last night's meeting of the New Zealand Rowing Association eulogistio reference was made to the work Mr. A. D. Bayfield has done in connection with rowing in New Zealand. Mr* Bayfield was elected unopposed secretary and treasurer for a further term.' Bombardier W. J. Smith, who was killed in. action in France on October 6, was, prior to enlistment, a member of the Corporation tramway workshops staff. The • workshops _ employees at ai meeting this week decided to write to tho parents of their ex-worlcmate, oonveying sympathy to them in their bereavement, and paying a tribute to thef work of t&e deceased soldier.
