THE PROPOSED ANZAC CLUB
. Sir,—Will you permit mc, through tho medium of your columns, to express my opinion of tho proposed Anzao Club, to bo erected in >. Palmerswh. North, for tho benefit of the soldiers, when about £10,000 to £12,000 is proposed to bo spent. We know that we will have hundreds of men returning to our Dominion, some helplessly maimed for life, others with loss of limb and loss of sight. It is preposterous to spend such a sum of money iii a club when 60 much good could be done otherwise. Speaking of social clubs, we all know from past experienco what they very often entail. This mattor requires every consideration, and I hope_ the committee will spend tho money in a way which is sure to .benefit tho soldiers to a greater extent than the proposed social club. Ono proposal has already been made by Mr. J. M. Johnston, of Palmereton North, which is worthy of every consideration. "The public who so generously gave to this fund will not, I am sure, care to have a club erected which, after the war, will be. nothing but an ornament to the town.—l am, etc., SUBSCRIBER.
