Thcro is a.good demand for sound 1 seed potatoos. which are scarce, as tho seed has not kept well this season. FROZEN MEAT MAEKET. Mosrs. Gilbert Anderson and Company (Messrs. Mcllsop. Home-Grown— The resumption of tho import of Dutch mutton has now taken place, and Smithfleld received about 1800 carcasses this week, prices ranging from B}d. for the .heaviest to 10d. for the lightest. The meat is being consigned from the senders in Holland to their usual agents, who are not restricted by any Government regulations as to price. Frozen—The large quantity of Patagonian sheep and lambs landed last week in Liverpool, and the arrival of the Middlesex there with Now Zealand meat, lias rendered that market weak, and the Patagonians aro being sold by tie buyers at a loss. Tho London market, howover, although Government releases have been greater, Temains firm on New Zealand meat, but Plato mutton and lamb are rather lower. Market prices for week ending:— Sept. 1. MONEY MAEKET. Tip Bank of England discount rate was on January 2, 1914, reduced from 5 to 4J per cent., on January 22 it was reduced to 4 per cent., and on January 23 3 per cent. On July 30 the rate- was raised to 4 per cent., and on July 31 it was raised to 8 per cent., and on August 1 it was further advanced to 10 per cent. On August 6 the rate -was reduced to 6 per cent., on August 7 it -was further reduced to 5 per cent., on July 13, 1916, it was raised to 6 per cent. OPEN MAEKET KATES. The open market discount rate for three months' bills is 5 9-16 per cent., as compared with 5 9-16 -per cent, last and 41 per cent. last year. Short_ loans are quoted at 5 per cent., as against 5 per cent, last week, and 43 per cent, last year. TEE METAL MARKETS.
