MAGISTRATE'S COURT
AN IMPUDENT THEFT
Mr. L. G. Held, S.M., presided 'at tlio Magistrate's Court yesterday. An impudent tlioft was committed by Ernest Green and Archibald West, who went into the Drill Hall, and filled a sack with a dozen blankets belonging to the Defenco Department, and valued at £5 Bs., and were about to walk away with the swag when they were arrested. The record of the two men was found to be bad, and they were sentenced to a month's imprisonment each.
Denis William Quill was found oil enclosed premises at a very early Lour yesterday morning, and appeared in Court to answer a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond. Ho was convicted and sentenced to a month's imprisonment.
For Insobriety four first offenders wero convicted and discliarged. Arrow Smith, alias Amelia Berry, and David Douglas were each lined 10s., in default three days' imprisonment, and Maggie Carlin was fined 10s.
Thomas Runnier, a soaman on hoard the s.s. Vermont, was convicted for drunkenness, and was ordered to be placed on board his ship and to pay 7s. costs.
Charles Walters Lynch, charged with attempted suicide, was remanded to October 27, and Michael Crowley, charged with a breach of the War Regulations,. in that .ho habitually, lived with a prostitute, was remanded to October 24.
Albert James King pleaded guilty to two charges of selling liquor without a license, and was fined £5. Mr. P. ,W. Jackson appeared for accused.

JUDGMENT SUMMONS. In a judgment summons case, Captain A. C. C. Stevens was ordered to pay tho Wellington Loan Co., Ltd., the sum of £13 7s. sd. on or before November 16, in default .seven days' imprisonment.
BREACH OF 'AWARDS
The Inspecjor of Awards (Mr. G. H. Lightfcot) proceeded against Mrs. T. Black, of tho Hotel Bristol, ; for '.a breach of the Private Hotel and Restaurant Workers' Award, in failing to allow one full' day's holiday in ' each week to T. Searle and J. Hayward, her employees, as required by tho award. Accused was convicted, and fined 205., and Searle and Hayward wore fined 10s, each.
John Carrig was. fined 40s. for a broach of the Furniture Trade Award, he, being an apprentice, did fail in his obligation to serve his employer for the period of his apprenticeship, as required by the award. •
. DEFENDED CASES. Frank Morton and F. E. Hiscocks proceeded against J. B. Clarkson to recover £7 75., alleged to be duo in respect of' an advertisement inserted in a publication known as "Square Deal." After hearing the evidence, judgment was given for plaintiffs for £3 13s. 6d. and costs. Mr. A. Dunn appeared for plaintiffs and lir. F, E. Evans for defendant. : : I
