Sir Douglas Haig reports: "This morning's attacks estended along a front northward of Gueudecourt and towards Butte and Warlencourt. Our aircraft on Tuesday made many reconnaissances, and made three bombing raids. Railway stock and station buildings were damaged, and a train was hit and derailed. Four of tho enemy's machines wero driven down, damaged, while a fifth fell into a lako. Four of ours have not returned." Three attacks wero broken successively, the onemy suffering noticeable losses. All our gains wore maintained intact. South of the Somme tho Germans attacked this morning eastwards of Borny-en-Santcrro. Portions of our advanced trenches were penetrated, but the enemy was immediately thrown hack- by a cminlcr-at-tack, the onemy retiring in disorder. He was caught b.v uur luinago fire, and many wore killed." '
