A VISIT TO THE FLEET
OVERSEA PRESSMEN EN TOUR Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. London, October 15. The Admiralty arranged for a party of Dominion pressmen, to visit the naval bases of the Grand Fleet. The trip commenced on Saturday at the southern base, where the pressmen were conducted on an extensive tour of the dockyards and workshops, and saw the most intense activity in naval and commercial shipbuilding. There were all manner of wonderful defensive and offen- ' sive craft. Many women are employed at the lathes and other lighter machines, showing that the Admiralty is fully using female labour where it was not imagined before the war. The pressmen wore also shown a leviathan battle-cruiEer, the latest thing in naval soionce, which gives ah overwhelming impression of strength and power, combined with greatest .speed and monster guns. The visitors found the officers and men of the Navy keen and alert.Whatever the Huns may havo achieved at Kiel and Bremerhaven in the matter of construction, they can never produce seamen the equal of these. Tho Empire Parliamentary Association is forwarding invitations for a Parliamentary trip to to include representatives of the Dominions' and British Parliaments. It is believed the India Office encourages the project, but representatives of the Dominions now in London, including Mr. Massey _ and Sir Joseph Ward, do not favour it.'
