Life saving .has fairly iwken on amongst the boys of tho institute, so much, so that a number of the boys wero examined by Messrs. A. A. Somerville and W: C. Collier the other evoning, and in all 41 Eoyal life-saving certificates were gained including elementary, proficiency, and two teachers' certificates. Not a single boy failed. On Thursday evening last the footballers of the institute held their annual football social. In all 300 footballers rolled up, including representatives from the various City Clubs, Messrs. Auld, C. Webster, and A. Williams represented the Wellington Football Association. The chairman (Mr. F. Kobe, director) commented _ on. tho succcsful season which had just closed, the most pleasing feature of wtrich was tho fact that in spite of many defeats two of tho teams rolled up as keen on the last game as on the opening day of tho season. The fact that the Fourth B Team had won the championship and that the Third Team had finished runnersup was commented upon. The following programme was carried out: Selections, Institute Orchestra; song, Miss M. Jones; recitation, Miss Jeffreys; song, Miss Morgan; toast. "The W.F.A.," Mr. J. D. Etowitt, reply Mr. A. Williams; duet, Miss M. Jones and' Mrs. Morgan; toast, "Our' Football Teams and' Kindred Clubs," Mr. F. Ross, reply Mr. H. Blair; song, humorous, Mr. M'Ecown.
