THE CENSUS TO-MORROW

Householdebs should not overlook the duty which rests on them tomorrow evening to fill in the census schedule left with them during the past few days. This task is something more than a formality at any time, and especially is this the case on the present occasion. Tho statistics which are compiled from the census .schedules are in the nature of a national asset. They are of great value in a multitude of directions in affording accurate and definite infor- ' mation for the guidance of those coil!corned with the Dominion's welfare. To a good many people the census returns are nothing more than tables I of figures; but to the student of those tables much is disclosed concerning [the progress and developments the country; our weaknesses that may boremedied, and our strength that may be increased. The statistics to those who follow' them are a guide to the shaping of public 'policy, an index to the condition of the people, a stimulus to effort in the right direction. It is. most necessary, therefore, (fhat proper care should he exercised ■in the filling in of the census forms. It is in the interests of everyone that the work should bo done carefully and accurately. Penalties are provided to. meet tho cases of those who' fail to fill in the forms, and also for those who.make false statements. The scrutiny on' the present occasion will bo keen, for it is particularly desirable that tho census now being taken shall be as full and as accurate as possible. The forms must be filled up on Sunday night, ancl must he ready when called for next Monday morning.
