WAR FUNDS
MEETING"OP NATIONAL COUNCIL.'
A meeting of tho National War Funds Council was held yesterday afternoon, presided over bv tho chairman (the Hon: G./W. Russell). The tallowing -were present:—Messrs. J. H. Upton (Auckland), Hugh Morison (Jiasterton), J. P. Luko (Wellington), J. Holland (Christcliurch), anu'J. Roberts, C.SI.G. (Dunedin). Tho report placed upon the tablo showed that the funds held by the Council now amounted to £22,651. A donation of £2000 was received from J It. Hugh Handy side, late of Hawke's Bay, now resident in Scotland, to be administered for the relief of New Zealand sick and wounded soldiers. This was gratefully accepted by the Council.
'A letter was received from the Westland Patriotic Conunittco asking that' the Council should take over and ad- ■ minister tho fund at present held by that body. It was agreed that the Council should take over the fund, and, in accordance with the -wishes of tho Wcstland Committee, appoint a local Advisory Board in that district as provided for in the War Funds Act. The Advisory Board -would consist, it was stated, of tho,late executive officers of the Westland Committee, who would advise the Council 011 all points of local necessities and administer relief ort~ behalf of the Council.
An application was also received from, tho Westport Patriotic Committee for the Council to take over and' control the fund hold by that body. The ccptance of this fund was deferred, pending receipt of further detafls'as to future administration. ~
