THE 'RED CROSS APPEAL. 'Hie following appeal for assis'tanco of a monetary character to tho funds of the Red' Cross organisation is being made to householders this week-end: — "'Owing to the groat increase in casualties, more money is urgently needed, for Red Cross purposes at tho front. A. universal appeal is being made throughout the Empire for this purpose. No doubt you have given before, but wo must remember that our lads at the. front give and give, and continue to give until, in many instances, the.v have given their all. 'l'ho casualty lists . speak for themselves. There are thousands of New Zcalanders in hospital, and there will be many thousands more It is not enough to praiso their valour. AVo must do our own duty as loyal British subjects by supplying adequate funds to provide for the .wants of those wlio aro iiffering their lives to defend us. Tho treasurer of tho fund is Mr. James Macintosh) and the trustees are tlie Hon. J. G. W.-Aitken, the Hon. 0. J. Johnston, aud Mr. Joseph Joseph.". - ■ Mr. B. Tripp, of Canterbury, -who has just returned from England, states that, the Hon. Arthur Stanley, chairman ot th<; British Red Cross Society, informed him that money was veiy urgently needed.
