WESLEY SUNDAY SCHOOL

The seventy-fifth anniversary tea and public meeting of the Wesley Church Sunday School (Taranaki Street) was .held last evening. .Mr. John Kershaw presided at the public meeting, and there was a fair attendance." v It was stated that in addition to the thirty-one names recorded in last year's report, the following had enlisted':— B. 0. Stokes, B. G. Hawkins. K. Huffan, C. V. Ward, W. Tonkins, 'C-A. Beale, S. Harris, H. Holdaway, C. Ramsdcn, H. Taylor; F. Irvine, T. C. • Ward, R. E. Blackburn, N. H. Moss, A. S. Bate, F. W. Ashby, W. G. Bryan, G. Haydon, H. Laws, S. Roberts, and A. N. Young. Messrs. A. Strong, f. Aston, and E. J. Spooner had fallen at tho front. Statistics showed that the total number of pupils was 440, and tho'average Sunday attendance 287. The following were this year's officers:—Superintendent, Mr. C. H. Barrett; secretary, Mr. Qtril F.iehig; treasurer, Mr. E. Upton; mission secretary, Mr. W. B. Strong; librarian, Mr. W. A. Grenfell; assistant librarians, Messrs Kutehcn and F. Irvine; musical conductor. Mr. W: B. Strong; pianist,' Miss Bolton; organists, Mr. B. Gardiner and Miss Brittain ; auditor, Mr. J. Kellow.

The chairman said it had been remarked that this Sunday School had been living on its past. He would not admit that, hut, if it was a fact, tho past was an honourable one. . The school had a staff of good officers, and the showing the children had made that ovening was evidence that good work was being done. Thero was some falling off in the attendance at Sunday School, and that ho could not explain.'

During the evening a programme of songs and recitals was rendered. Most of tlie items -wore by children trained at the Sunday School.
