OUR CITY AMBULANCE SERVICE
$ THE NEED FOE. IMPROVEMENT. Referring to the recent regrettable delay in connection _ with ambulance transport for an accident case at tho wharf, tho Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luko) remarked on Saturday, to a reporter that ho had already liad a preliminary chat over the mattar with the chairman of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board (Mr. H. Baldwin). Sir. Baldwin had expressed the idea then that tho city should provide another motor ambulance, but His Worship maintained that as the fftnbulanco was for tho benefit of all within tho Hospital district, it should bo obtained by tho board, and the amount 110 charged up in the annual lovies 011 tho contributing bodies. These lad been going up, but here was a service that was absolutely necessary, and tho expense was fully justifiable. Ho felfc sure ihat 'the members of the council would ho only too pleased to identify themselves in a. de'fmito manner in'improving tho ambulance service in the city, but tho cost, lie thought, should bo spread over tho whole of -tho district that would benefit-. .
'Mr. Liilio said ho iwuM go as far as to say that he would bo willing to call the Financo Committee of tlio council together to considor the matter, in order to como to a quick settlement, and was ready at all times to co-operate with the Hosnital Board on matters that concerned tho welfaro of the people as a whole.
