At tho annual meeting of tho Red Cross Socioty it was stated that to May 3, £300,000 had been collected for tlio Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Of this sum £270,000 is in hand. Disbursements for tho year amounted to £1-27,000. It is expected that the society will now have to expend between £15,000 and £20,000 monthly. STOP-WORK MEETINCS. DRASTIC ACTION THREATENED. Floods at Batliurst have rendered 200 familios homeless. BIG LOSSES OF STOCK FEARED. (Rcc. October 8, 5.5 p.m!) Sydney, October 8. There are big floods 111 tho Murray and Murrumbidgeo districts. Wide areas havo been inundated, and settlers havo been warned to leave. Big losses of stock al'o feared. Thero is a record flood in Forbes township, which is partly under water. TTfiTEST FLOOD REPORTS. (Rec. October !), 0.40 a.m.) Sydney, October 8. Tho latest reports are that many rivers aro flooding, causing heavy damago to crops and stock. Flood boats have been scut to Forbes, where the Lachlan has inundated the country for miles. It is reported that there are'heavy losses of cattle and sheep, and thousands of acres of wheat have been ruined. At Gunchigai and the valleys of the Dclubla arid Hawkesbury Rivers wide areas have been inundated, and much damage done. Many settlers havo been compelled to leave their homes.
