The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals held its fortnightly meeting yesterday. Mr. F. Meadoweroft presided over a fair attendance of'members. Inspector Henry reported that since the previous meeting ho had dealt with eleven cases of cruelty. Olio case, the working of a'horse with a. diseased shoulder, lio had taken ,to Court, and a fine of £2 had been imposed. It was' decided to hold tho annual meeting on October 31. Subscriptions received during the fortnight amounted to £4 19s. They wore Mrs. W. Wathan, £1 Is.; Messrs. Thompson, Lowis and Co., Mrs. A. Anderson, and Mrs. S. Downey 10s. each; Messrs. II: E. Geddis and Co., Dr. Collins, Mrs G. Harty, Marsden and Chamberlain, Mr. J. Priestley, os. each; Mr. .1. G. Harkness, 35.; Messrs. Yeoman, Garrott and Barker, W. Ma reliant, W. C, Midlane, AV. J. Holdsworth, Mrs. Swanston, "Anonymous,"' and l "Friends," 2s. 6d. each.
