FRENCH CLUB
. _— The French Club held a musical evening on Wednesday. In the absence of tho president, Captain Barclay, Mr. Cooke referred to the death of Mr. A. A. Stuart Mcnteath, a former president of the club, and the members expressed sympathy with the deceased's relatives by rising and remaining standing for a minuto or so. The programme began with a piano solo by Miss Rowley. Then Mr! Whotton recited "Le Papillon," and Mr. Cooke sang "Ma Normandie." Mademoiselle du Bosson recited a long piece, "Ne vous mariez pas, Mademoiselle." Mr. Fostor gave a piano solo, which was much appreciated, and later in tho evening ho was askod to give another. The principal item of tho evening was. a comedy, "Dieu mcrci,. Jo convert est mis." Madame Dechanct M'lntosh appeared to advantago as the servant of tho house, quarrollinc with her fiancee (Mr. Hoginbotliain). Miss Mead appeared in bridal costume, having como back to tho house from the niairie, where the marriage ceremony had been performed. Tho atmosphere of quarrel * was too much for her and tho bridegroom (Mr. Whotton), for tlioy, too, are drawn into it. Presently the father (Mr. Cooko) appears, enraged that the bickering is delaying the wedding breakfast, and, in turn, storming at> his wifo (Miss Stephenson). After tho comedy, Mademoiselle du Bosson gave a reading of a poem, and Mr. Hodson a short piece, contrasting French and English idioms. Tho proceedings ended with the singing of "La Marseillaise."
