SEATOUN PARADE

THE REGENT POLL. Reference to the Seatoun Parade loan poll was made at Thursday's meeting of the Miramar Borough Council. There were present at the meeting Mr: F. Townsend (Mayor), Councillors S. H. Underwood, W. H. Green, and J. Pollock. ■ The Mayor asked the town clerk to announce -to tho council the result of the poll, and the-clerk gave the following figures:— ■ For. Against. Fire Brigade Station,, Miramar 6 15 AVorser Bay... 4- 7 Seatoun 40, 30 Council Office, Broadway 29 26 Total 1. 79 ' 78 Result: Poll carried by one vote. The Mayor: How many ratepayers are there here?. The town clerk: Between 800 and 900. _ The Mayor. said that-tho council could iiot congratulate the ratepayers on - the way they had turned out to vote. "However, the poll has been carried-by one vote," he added, "and for our purpose.that is as go'od as by 100 votes." Ho .was glad 1 it had been carried: because the work was urgent. They would get on with' the matter as fast as they could. There was another process yet to be gone through bofore they could raise the .money, and ho moved: "Tflia-t the proper steps shall bo taken to obtain the permission of the Executive Council for the raising of the loan of £4500 as authorised by tho ratepayers.". The motion was carried.
