AMBULANCE SERVICE

THE MAYOR SYMPATHETIC; The Mayor (Mr.J. P. Lute) is wholly desirous that the position, regarding the motor ambulance service in Wellington should be cleared up, and_ put sight in the interests of every citizen, and he says he would give any assistance he could to put the matter on a proper and safe footing, so that the City will never bo in peril of being without a motor ambulance. Mr. Luke said he did not know as yet what was exactly the best tiling to bo done, but he was quite prepared to consult (on behalf of the Council) with the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, to see what could be done in the matter. Mr. Luke will probably consult;with Mr. Baldwin next week on this subject. Mr. Baldwin's view of the matter is th'at tho board should have a second motor ambulance as' a stand-by or for use when two are required, and that as an emergency another motor ambulance similar to those used by the Defence Department (which only cost £250) should he kept at the Central Fire Station, and be manned on an emergency by the brigadesmen. _ Such an ambulance» would be of service in tiie case of tram and street accidents, and would give the men of tho brigade practical training in "first aid" work and the handling of the injuved.
