LABOUR DAY

9 — THIS YEAR'S CELEBRATIONS. The annual Labour Day demonstration will take place in Wellington on October 23. The celebration will be held at Newtown Park. The Labour Day Committee- have been very active for somo time, and a" large programme is nearly completed. It has been decided to hold a sports gathering, which will includo side-shows, Highland dancing, tug-o'-war, baby show-, primary schools' relay racing, and manoeuvring by boy scouts. Entries for tho tug-o'-war, the Highland dancing and the schools' relay racing are now being re-' ceived by the secretary, and indicate keen contests. Two trophies have ' been donated (one for boys and one tor girls) for the two best essays, by boys and girls attending the primary schools of Wellington'and suburbs, on the subject, "Tho Origin and the Meaning of Labour Day." Entries for these will close on October 16.
