NEW BANK NOTES.

"ones" '''round the horder is , familiar to'most people., The new note j to take its place is a much more elaborate and artistio design, printed' in' '< at least half a- dozen delicate, tones (as j they, are too vague to he called . colours). The medallions enclosing tiny 1 scenes of native New Zealand, with Maoris and kiwis, in the foreground, now appear on each side of a, large oval design, filled intricately with mosaio work in pale Blues, greens, and yellows, each section being filled in with.,a '.differently designed tessala'tion. The figure one appears in hold relief in each corner, and the word. "one", is incorporated in tho top, hottom, and centre of the design. The block of tho black print is a half-tone, and the whole is a pleasing blend of pinky- ' grey Tainbowing to the palest of green '' ituits in the'centre.- ' The _five-pound note Is warmer In • tone. Its pink-brown tone has a deeper glow. Hcro;.again, are the familiar • scenes of primitive Zealana, but : instead of being over one another (as : in the. present note) they are on either side at the foot, of tho note, and there is a big greon figure five in the centre, snrroundod by ring after ring of the finest mosaic pattern, printed in the lighest and most delicate tints. This in place of tho words "Five Pounds" which now appear lengthways on every five-pound note. The "back of cachof the new notes also has a muoh heavier and more elaborate design and oolour scheme than those at present in circulation. . •
