Hubsoll) 6tated to ft Dominion reporter yesterday that there will bo established at tho St. Helens Hospital, Wellington, and at all other St. Helens Hospitals in the Dominion clinics, whore expectant mothers will Tie able to obtain advice and treatment as out-patients. Circulars aro being sent to all medical practitioners in each district advising them of the position,. and' inviting their co-operation. The clinic will bo in charge 'oi tho medical officer of tho St. Helens Hospital iii each centre, 'and any patients who may not be in a position to pay fees for pre-natal advice' andl treatment will bo able to obtain, this information or treatment by applying to tho matron or tho medical officer. Those patients who have engaged the servioes of a private medical practitioner for ] confinement will be strtctly regarded as private patients, and will not be booked for, admission to tho hospital except whero tho condition is considered: to require hospital treatment, and with the consent of the doctor so engaged. No woman, wlioso husband is in receiirt of more than £4 per week will be entitled to treatment at those clinics. Recommendations forwarded by medical practitioners, whether private or public, for treatment at. these hospitals will be carefully dealt with,- and 1 m such cases tho patients after rer coiving pre-natal treatment in the hospital will be able to return to thoir homes for confinement. Tho Minister hopes that tho conditions now brought about will have the effect of materially assisting wage-earners and mlso members of friendly societies who come within the limitations of salary mentioned. The medical officer will attend at each St. Helens Home two' afternoons in tho week for tho purpose of giving information to those who may wish to , take advantage of the soheme.
