CATHOLIC FEDERATION
ST. ANNE'S BRANCH. The first quarterly meeting of St. Anne's branch of the Roman Catholic Federation -took place at St. Anne's Hall last night. In the absence of tlio president (tho Ven. Archdeacon Devoy), who was indisposed, the_ Rev.. Father ,Kimbell, S.M., vice-president, presided. There was a large attendance, and among those present were the Rov. Fathers Peoples, S.M., O'Connor, S.M._, Barra, S.M., and Mark Devoy, S.M. Tho proceedings took the form of a social evening, and addresses on matters affecting Catholics ' were given by the Rev. Father Hurley, S.M., Admr., tho Rev. Father Goudringer, S.M., M.A., of St. Patrick's College, and Mv. W. Johnson, diocesan secretary of tho federations. Tho need for organisation among Catholics was emphasised in order to protect their rights as citizens and taxpayers, especially in the mattor of education. Glowing accounts of the growth of the federation in the aichdioceso wore read. Tho musical programmo was an excellent one, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. Those who contributed weroMaster Henry Lissac, the .talented boy violinist who happened to bo passing through Wellington; Master Winston M'Cartny, Miss Eileen, Clark, and Mr. Kevin Dillon. Mr. Geo; Holloway played the accompaniments. Miss Una Simon supplied tho danco music. Beforo tho meeting concluded a resolution was passed in cormoction with tho refusal of the National Government to recognise Catholic claims, and pledging Bupport to the Dominion Executive of tho Federation in its endeavour to secure educational advantages for Catholics which is theirs by right, as citizens taking their sharo in the defence of the Empire and as taxpayers. - . ,
