Advice received in "Wellington yesterday stated that the old E.. and A. steamer Aldenharo, sold to English buyers, has been renamed iLarnc. In their latest report from New York, Messrs. Mailler and Quercau state:— "There arc no material changes since our last report. The different lines have been chartering some further tonnage, but have had to pay full rates for same. The fall season is approaching, "when there is a much greater demand for tonnage or the transportation of grain, and,. as large supplies will no doubt bo required by Europe, this will mean paying high rates again this season. It will also make it more difficult to securo tonnage to load for Australia and New Zealand, as owneTS will much prefer the shorter and quicker turnabout of their steamers. None of the lines have made any change. l } in their freight quotations, and -we cannot learn that reductions of any kind have been made. Some of them are already discussing tho question of higher rates in tho near future." Overhaul to the Hawera » expected to bo completed in time for the 'Vessel to leave, Wellington for Patca at noon tomorrow. Duo in port this morning from tho north, the Tarawera will land 537 tons of cargo before proceeding, on to Lyttelton and Dunedin this evening. The total number of vessels posted as "missing" at Lloyd's during 1915 was 25, of an aggregate tonnage of 28,290 not tons, whilo of theso. 21 were under the British flag. To show that the war lias not augmented the list of "missing" vessels to any extent, it is.noted that in 1913 tho number of Teasels stricken from the register for this cause was 25, in 1912 it was 36, and 33 in 1911, 23 in 1910, 19 in 1909, 29 in 19C8. . , ~ , On account of having been delayed down south, the Paloona will not arrive afc Wellington till to-morrow.
