THE DALMATIANS

, ————«; ——~: No change in'the policy of .the Recruiting Board or tho Government with regard to the enlistment of Dalmatians in the N.Z.E.F. has been mado in consequence of the report'of ' the' 'Aliens' Commission. A few of them have been accepted since the' .war began, but'only those who had been naturalised pre- - \'iously. . The Government 'has refrained from laying down any definite rules about -the enlistment of aliens. The Defence authorities may, without reference to the Minister, accept any man who was born in New Zealand of alien parents; both of whom were naturalised before his birth. A |man born in .Now Zealand of. parents naturalised since he was'born'may be,accepted if the Minister approves. No man born of unnaturalised -parents may be ■ accepted. And of course 'no man who is not himself a British subject may serve in' the firitish Army. In all the 1 doubtful cases in which the approval of the Minister is required the. greatest care is taken to discover all about the man's antecedents, character, and racial or political sentiments. Dalmatians are dealt with exactly as are other aliens. No Dalmatian is accepted for service with tlio Army unless the Minister has conclusive evidence that ho has antiGerman feelings.
