Martin, of Palraerston North, New Zealand, lias .died of wounds in tlio New Zoaland Stationary ' Hospital in France. Ho was wounded / Mi the Somme. [Dr. A. A. Martin, of Pnlmerston North, was' recognised as oris of our. most brilliant medical men. Ho was in England when war. broke out, and volunteered for service with the British 'Army in France, serving throughout tho strenuous days of the great re. 'treat His untiring energy, heroic 'dovotion to duty, and distinguished capacity as a surgeon wero twice mentioned in dispatches. After a trying period of incessant duty ho was oblige ed to take a rest to recuperate, and Teturaed to New • Zealand—last year— and was everywhere received with hon'our. He talked little about himself, 'hut much of what, he had seen in! ,'Franco, and of tho heroism of the ■Britis\ soldier. ' During his furlough 'iu New Zealand he acted as one of the Commissioners at the Trentham Camp and his advico was freely offered and accepted by tho Government •in matters pertaining to the Army Medical Service. His published book "A Surgeon in Khaki," attraoted much Attention at Homo for its candid criticism of the organisation and administratiouof tho British Aririy Medical Service in the early, unprepared days of tho great .war. After his furlough had expired he rejoined bis corps \t the front.]
