The fortuightly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held Inst evening, Mr. F. Meadowcroft presiding. 'J'ho inspector reported that ho had dealt with, ten cases of cruelty since the previous meeting. Opposums in the Wellington district are now protected and regulations will shortly be issued.'These will prevent the taking: or killing of tho animals by any person except to whom a permit has been granted by the Minister of Internal Affairs. Subscriptions received for tho two wocks ending yesterday wore:—Wellington City Council, Miss C. Eichardson, ~£1; Mcsdamcs Wise and Montgomery, and Mr. A. .T. Pethorick ss. each (155.); Mrs. Brown, Messrs. 0. Pearco, ,T. L. Turner, and friend, 2s. 6d. each (IDs.); Mrs. W. H. Smith, 25.; Anonyinoiis, 2s. Gd.; total, £7 Ss. Gd.
