LIFE SAVING SOCIETY
a ~ WELLINGTON HEAD CENTRE. On September 13, at tho Boys' Institute Tepid ' Baths, tho life-saving squads in training under Mr. W. H. Wakelin were presented- for examination by Mr. A. A. Somerville,- an examiner of the Royal Life Saving Society, with the following results: — Boys' Institute Class.—Elementary Certificates: Frank Ross, Fraflk- Mumford, Charles E. H. Holmes, Leo Barker, John Watkins, Clifford W. Ross, Herbert S. Gubbins, Christian Rusterhola, Clair W. Siversen, William Lethani, Peter L. Wilson. • Proficiency Certificates.—Frank Ross, Frank Mnmford, Herbert S. Gnbbins, Christian Rusterholz. Hon. Teacher's Certificate.—William H. Wakclin. Fresh squads liavo commenced training, and will come up for examination in duo course. A feature of the recent development of tho Wellington Head Centre of the Society is tho formation of a ladies' branch. A very good muster of ladies came forward at the request of Messrs. Collier and Duffy on September 12, and elected tho following temporary officers and committee: Captain, Miss M. Nolan; hon. secretary, Miss N.-Ed-mansou; lion, treasurer, Miss E. Harper; committee, Misses D. Donnelly, J. Aiken, M:. Allan, F. Fear, I. "barren. The objects of the branch arc to forward both tho competitive' and the life-saving aspects of tho art of natation. Large classes are receiving instruction, and the prospects of founding .1 really' livo body aro bright.
