ENROLLING NEW ARRIVALS
■..' : —*— •' CUSTOMS OFFICERS' LATEST DUTY. Since Saturday last, when the date of voluntarily enrolling m ±ho reserve of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force lapsed, a new duty has been imposed upon the Customs officers, who search the ships on their arrival from overseas ports. In addition to having to scent out smugglers or the "lay" of dutiable goods, from opium to diamonds, these officers have now to see that evory now arrival of military age is enrolled. His namo, address (permanent and temporary), occupation, etc. ore carefully noted, and he has to- givo the authorities an idea of his whereabouts. '■ . Tho' information asked, for is only that which any bona-fide traveller would willingly provide, and no difficulty, was experienced in getting a complete list -of _ thoso mon of.', military age who arrived by the Moeraki from Sydney on Monday morning? when the Title as regards overseas' arrivals, was insisted upon.
