SOUTH WELLINGTON
PROGRESSIVE SOCIETY'S ANNUAL MEETING. The third • annual meeting of tho South Wellington Progressive Society was held in Mr. Castle's rooms, Mowtown, on AVcdnesday evening. Mr. Collie presided, and moved tfie adoption of the report and balance-sheet. Tho report stated that tlie war had: reduced to a minimum the number of mooting® held during tiio year, and had rendered the City Council comniendably cautious. Several important improvements had been made in tho district for which hotli the City Coum-i* and the socicty de-served tho appreciation of the community. Sorrow was expressed at the death of the socioty's late honorary solicitor, Mr. E. J. Fitzgibbon, and eulogistic referenco was m'ado to tfio life work of tho late Mr. Gresley Lukin, who by helping to mako civic institutions clean and' groat rendered good service to the Dominion. The election of officers resulted as follows President, Mr. Basil Cooper; vice-presidents, Messrs. 1). Campbell, F.- \Y. Butler, L. C. Tra-vers, C. E. Ludwig, and L. Goodger; secretary," Mr. J. Castle; treasurer, Mt. A. Crosby; oxecutive, Messrs. E. Collio, L. T. Watkins, W. Wylie, E. J. Caterer. A. A. George, K. 11 end, J. 51. lieveridgc, F. S. S. Osborn. W. A. Worth, I!. H. Jenkins, H. E. Wells, and AV. Turrall. Several members wero of tho opinion that discussions on the needs of tho district should ho held more frequently in the future. Messrs. Campbell, Castle, Cateres, and Travers were appointed a deputation to wait on tho Postmaster at Wellington to ask ifor certain changes in tho present postal arrangements that are desired by business men of Newtown.
