That it is possible to grow oranges in tho Wairarapa has been demonstrated by Mr. F. Meenkiu, of Clarcville. The fruit just grown by Mr. Mcenkin is a good size, and the flavour excellent.

Tho secretary of the Carterton' Acclimatisation Committee reports that tho pheasants lately introduced into tho district appear to be doing well. Besides liberating tho pheasants, the committee' was successful in procuring an English stag, which Messrs. Savers Save liberated in the Waiohine Gorge, where a promising herd is being built up. With a view of the depredations of poachers, the eommitteo is moving in the direction of the appointment of a permanent paid ranger in tho district.

"Flower Day" in Carterton resulted in £28 16s. being collected for Christinas gifts to the soldiers.

During the past few days some 24,000 trout fry and. 3000 yearlings have been liberated in tlie streams round Carterton. ■ Altogether 53,000 fry have been allotted to the South Wairarapa. Some of the liugo crabs found on Ascension Island are each a foot in length. They have been known to steal rabbits from their holes and devour them.
