HALF-YEAR'S EXPORTS

The Board of Trade returns for June, complete the first half of the year in respect to British commerce. The outstanding feature is the fact that the exports of British products last month were not alone above tho | highest of any month since the outbreak of the war, but were actually £7,401,587 in advance "of the pre-war Juno of 1914.

Imports and exports for June, 1916, with variations compared with June, 1915 and 1914, have been as follow:— >. Inc. or dec. Inc. ot dec. Taking now the six months of 191 C, and comparing them with the corresponding periods of tho previous two years, the following results, are obtained :— -. 6 mos. to Inc. or dec. Uritish exports 241,807,881 + 58,184,993 -43 649 730 He-exports 54,121,101 + 2,798,081 - 6|155|315 Total 770,130,148 +106,324,358 + 79,493,0b4 While the increase of British exports (£58,184,993) has been very remarkable in 1916, compared with "the corresponding half-year of 1915, the total haa only fallen short of tho 1914 halfyear by £13,649,730. The overseas traffic of £770,130,148 for the half-year is a- very remarkable record.. The increases in British exports for June are, of course, under the heading of manufactures. Motor-cars, etc. 840,362 328,865 Grand total ... 36.982,377 11,474,928 Only two items showed decreases— machinery. (£84,321) and wood manufactures (£13,228). As regards imports in June, grain and flour increased by £2,637,560, while moat declined by £74,906. Raw cotton imports declined hy £612,948, and wool by £524,624. Imports of oil seeds, nuts, etc., .increased by £2,791,336. It should ho noted that goods imported include all articles of food, but not other goods tho property of the British and Allied Governments. Exports include, goods sent to the Governments of the Allies, but not goods shipped, on British Government vessels.
