e—. — A PRELIMINARY MEETNG. .. The Council of Education hold its second ordinary meeting iu the Parliamentary Library Building yesterday,'all the members being present. They are: Dr. W. J. Anderson, Director of Education, chairman; Mr. J. Caugbley, Assistant Director; Mr. T. 11. Fleming, senior inspector or schools; Professor J. Macmillaii' Browii,' representing tlio University Senate; Mrs. B. E.' Talbot, representing the interests of the education- of girls; Messrs. J. G. W. Aitkeu, J. R. Kirk, W. M. Franklyn, and C. H. Opie, representing Education Boards; Misses l\ Myers andE. A. Chaplin, and: Messrs. T. F. Foster arid T. U. Wells, representing primary school teachers ■ Miss 0. M. Oruickshauk and Mr. F. H. Campbell, representing secondary and technical school teachers; Messrs. U. Hogben and E. C. Banks', representing industrial and technical ■interests. The chairman opened the meeting by describing briefly the work done by the various recess committees, particularly the committees oh > agricultural education, on the education of girls, and medical inspection. He reforred also to the other business to he considered by the council at its meetings. A resolution was passed expressing sympathy with Mr. and Mrs. "Hogben in tho loss of their eldest son at Gallipoli. '. • A motion that tho. meetings of tho council should he open to the Cross was defeated. , The Minister of Education addressed the council and montioned a number of questions on which he desired its opiniou. Tlio business of the council yesterday was confined to the sotting up of committtec-s to deal with the different matters to be considered,_ and the various committees met during the afternoon.
