CHURCH OF ST. GERARD
On Sunday last the Triduum, which had been in progress at St. Gerard's Church, Hawlter Street, was brought to a close. The 10 o'clock Mass was celebrated by the Very Rev. Father Mangan, C.SS.R., assisted by the Very Rev. Fathers Sullivan and Byrne, C.SS.R.'s. His , Graco Archbishop Redwood preached an interesting; sermon on the subject of tho Triduum, aaid congratulated the large congregation on their devotion and enthusiasm in attending in such, largo nrambors on eaoh' evening during tho week. Tho choir of St. Gerard's, under Mr. Frank Oakos, sang Gounod's "Messo Solennelle," Mozart's "Ave Verum," Stadler's "Ecce Sacordos," and Tozcr's "Proper of tho Mass." At the evening service the church was again crowded, some hundred persons being unable to gain admission. The Very Rov. ■ Father Mangan, C.SS.R.,. preached a stirring discourse oil devotion to. Our Lady of Perpetual Succour. "• His Graco the Archbishop was present, and officiated at Solemn Benediction. ■ The choir sanjj somo specnal motets, among them being Palestrinai's Tanis Angolicus," Allegris's "Adoremus," Mendelssohn's "Cast Thy Burden," Elgar's "0 Salufans in F," Lambillotto's "Mngnificat" and "Tantum Ergo," and. Oakes's "Divino Praises." The treatment of tho music by tho choir of St. Gerard was most devotional and artistic, and distinctly added to tho solemnity of the Triduum concluding ceremonies. Miss Phyllis Hanify presided at the organ. The altar decorations were of beautiful design, in floral and lighting. The Very Rev. Father Mangan thanked everyone who by their attendance had assisted in making the Triduum such a success.
