SWIMMING

The races for the boys at tho public tepid swimming baths, which aro held ovory Saturday evening, are becoming very popular with tho boys and the pjiblic. Last Saturday evening souio excellent races wero wituossed, the following being tho results:— 33 1-Srd Yards Handicap.—First hoat: S. Dempster, 7seu., 1; Dansten, 7scc., 2; G. Letham, 6sec., 3. Also started: H. Farnall, losec.; Allan, 7sec.; C. Boss, 7eec. Sccond heat: A. Ross, 6sec., 1; L. Barker, Bsec., 2; A. Thomson, 6bcc., 3. Also started: Brits'., Bsec.; E. Thomson, 6soc.; W. Whcllcr, fisec.; Wilson, 6sec. Third heat: E. Thoniliillj 4scc., 1; Coiunib, lsec., 2; W. l Thomas, scr., 3. Also started: Woolcott, osee.; J. Anderson, ssec. Tho final was a great race. Boss and Thornhill were leading right up to tho last, when Colurab, who seemed well beaten, made a great spurt, and just managed to squeeze through aud touch the tiles first. Thornhill was second and Ross third. It was the best race that had been seen at the baths for some time. Next Saturday evening a 33 l-3rd yards handicap for boys will bo held at 8 p.m. There will bo no entrance money, and two prizes are offered. The handicapping, by Messrs. A. A. Somerville and A. M. Farnall, has given great satisfaction. At tho ond of the season a gold medal will be awarded to the boy gaining tho greatest number of points.
