: $ _. ALL LICENSES RENEWED. ' • The adjourned meeting of the Wellington Licensing Committee was held yesterday. Mr. 'AV. G. Riddell, S.M., presided, and there woro also present: Messrs. W. J. Hellyer, Pet'wriok, Jcim Smith, George Tiller, and R. Fletcher. Albion Hotel.—The license was renewed and. a transfer of the license from J. J. Firth to J. W. Campbell was granted. Imperial Hotel. —License was renewed and transfer granted from 8. .M'Guire ito Joseph Stuart. Thistle Inn.—A renewal of the license was granted to William Han? nifin. Inspector Hendrey Btated that the hotel had been renovated, and the police report was satisfactory. .. NEW ZEALANDER HOTEL. Elizabeth Mary Phillips (nee Davey) applied for the renewal of her Jicense for the New Zealandor Hotel. Mr, T. Young, who appeared for the applicant, stated that Mrs, Davey had married since the matter was last before the committee, and her husban'!, Mr. Sydney Phillips, was quite capable, in conjunction with the present manager, of properly conducting the house. , Inspector Hendrey opposed the application, Ho stated that there had been improvement in tho management of tho hotel since the last meeting, but it was not yet quite satisfactory. He desired to call evidence. Mr. Riddell: Mr. Phillips has produced certificates from . a number of men of standing to say he is qualified. Inspector Hendrey; What is the value of these certificates in' the face of the direct evidence that we have ? Mr. Riddell pointed out that under Section 134 of the Act, when a woman licensee married her certificate passed automatically to her husband. -The committee decided to give Mr. Phillips a chance of seeing whether he could conduct tho hotel in the manner it should be, and tho license was accordingly renewed. ■ TRANSFERS, ETC. Transfers of the license of the Central Hotel from S. J. Whiteford .to George Macdonald, and of the Terminus Hotel from C. W. Corky to C. F. Priest were granted. Annio A. Holbniok, licensee of the Princess Theatre Hotel, was granted permission to change tho name of the house to the-Dominion Hotel.
