General Smuts, reporting on Saturday, states: "Tho enemy is being actively pressed in the Ulguru mountains, and despite tho heavy_ rainfall and the destruction of the bridges and roads, we frustrated tho enemy's intention to offer a prolonged resistance with a view to gaining time for the organisation of his eventual retreat further to the south. Our. mounted troops westward of the mountains, advancing towards Mahalaka and Kissuki, took prisoner many Small parties, and captured) one gun. General Van der Venter's 6trong detachments are -moving on Kilossi from tho southward, Northey's columns are advancing from Iringa, and Lupembo eastwards towards Mahenge, upon tho coast, while a, column from Bagamojo is approaching Dar-es-Salaam, co-operating with the Navy.
