SOUTHERN MAHKETS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, September 1. Tho -wheat market was much firmer e few days ago, especially Tuscan, but the disturbance caused in the American and the Home market, by the entrance of Rumania into the war eased the position again. There has since been a.recovery, and. Tuscan is now worth fully a penny per bushel more than last week. There have been a number of salos during the .week, including several farmers' lines in store. -Hunters and. Pearl are also firm, but with practically no change in prices. Potatoes are .firm, as offerings are limited, the-price offered being £7 at country stations. There as a good demand for grass and clover seeds for spring sowing, and prices ore abnormally high. Buyers are holding off as much as possible owing to the high prices. Danish is rather easier, as the result of a temporary increase in supplies, and is quoted- at about 200s. New Zealand, nominal, ponding new arrivals; 186s lt c.i.f., is asked for New Zealand September shipment. A few sales ore reported at 182s. Cheese is steady. Now Zealand and Canadian 103s. to 104s.
